San Diego is very lucky to be one of the few places in the US to have velodrome and have a thriving local race scene where every category has a quality field, not to mention the bleachers are filled every single week from April through October. The San Diego Velodrome is located in Balboa Park (Map).
2011 SDVA (San Diego Velodrome Association) Memberships:
Swami's Cycling Club is an Affiliate Club of the San Diego Velodrome. This illustrates Swami's support of the local community and increased support of its own club members.
Swamis members receive a 50% discount on individual memberships and in return it is expected that Affiliate Clubs participate in SDVA work days and perform one community project each year like the 2010 Sambazon San Diego Cup Club Challenge.
Swamis Affiliate Individual Membership Cost $60:
This applies to renewing and new SDVA members.
To get your affiliate track membership you must:
- Be a member of Swamis Cycling Club
- Login to the Swamis.org "Members Only" section to pay the membership fee via PayPal / MC/Visa/Amex.
- Fill out and sign the "2011 Affiliate Member Form" and return the completed form to the current Swamis Track Liaison. Please email track@swamis.org to receive the PDF form.
Members receive numerous benefits including:
- Access to the track for personal training and riding
- Discounted fees for TNR and other events
- TNR is only $5 / night for members
Where else can you get a solid motor paced warm-up + (3) Races for under ten bucks?
Upcoming SDVA Events:
Swami's will partner up with coach Sean Burke again for 2011. These classes provide an opportunity to try out track riding/racing, hone bike handling skills, and get some solid training in at the track. A limited number of rental bikes will be available at no additional charge. The tentative dates are March 15, 22, 29. (Tuesday Nights). These are the (3) weeks prior to the start if the adored TNR (Tuesday Night Racing) that typically begins the first Tuesday in April.
- Price will be $60/ rider for the 3 week session.
- Note this is a 50% discount from the typical track class.
Note: You must take a track class (like this one) before you can race TNR.
MOST FUN YOU WILL HAVE ON A BIKE....starts up the first week in April and weekly races continue until early Fall.
San Diego Club Cup Challenge:
This event will be happening again in 2011. Swami's came out if full force for the inaugural event and there was some heated competition between track locals Adams Ave. and Swami's. After every last omnium point was counted Swami's was crowned the winner over Adams Ave. by the smallest of margins to win the coveted 2010 Sambozon San Diego Club Cup. Stop by Nytro sometime where the Cup is being displayed.
